Overwatch 2 was announced back in 2019 as the sequel to one of the most beloved hero shooters ever made, but when is the Overwatch 2 release date?
What should you expect from the game? Are there any new heroes? Where can you play it? We’re here to answer all those questions for you today, and more.
Overwatch 2 Release Date
Overwatch 2 is currently scheduled to launch on October 4th, 2022. The game promises to feature more than 30 hero characters (more on that later), a reduced team size in PvP, and persistent co-op modes and was originally announced at BlizzCon 2019.
The developers have set out to ensure that the new game is playable alongside the original while making improvements to the engine.
For example, there’s a larger focus on bigger map sizes made possible by the sheer scope of the engine, and every existing hero is getting a visual redesign for the game.
Overwatch 2 will launch in early access, thus allowing the team working on it to fix bugs as they crop up.
It’ll also allow the developers to add content whenever it’s ready, meaning that the game will never truly be dead.
Overwatch 2 Platforms
Fans of the series will be glad to hear that the game is launching across basically every platform. You’ll be able to play Overwatch 2, cross-platform, on the following systems:
- Nintendo Switch
- PlayStation 4
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox One
- Xbox Series X
- Xbox Series S
Season 1 will launch on October 4th with three new heroes, with season 2 starting on December 9th. With the fact that the game itself is going through a constant beta, it’s possible for you to play an early build of the game right now, either by signing up or ordering the Watchpoint Pack which comes with:
- Overwatch 2 Beta Access
- Two Overwatch 2 Legendary Hero Skins
- Season 1 Premium Battle Pass
- 2000 Overwatch 2 Virtual Currency
- Overwatch 2 Player Icon
- Overwatch Legendary Edition
Overwatch 2 Heroes
Part of the appeal of Overwatch as a series is the sheer amount of options you have for your player character, and that’s the same with Overwatch 2. A hero shooter is nothing without the heroes, and Overwatch 2 has the following announced so far:
- Wrecking Ball
- Soldier: 76
That’s not all of them, either.
Blizzard plans to announce more heroes for the game in the coming months, with at least two unannounced and unrevealed heroes coming to the game thanks to the new seasons.
