Even if you’re an arachnophobe, there’s no denying there are a few cute spider Pokémon across the now 800-plus sprites. Think Joltik, Dewpider and the little Gen II spider we’re discussing in this here article – Spinarak. OK, their evolutions may not be as endearing, but these three certainly won’t send anyone running scared. And what’s even cuter than a little spider ‘mon? A little shiny spider! So can you catch shiny Spinarak in Pokémon GO? And just what does it look like?
Is shiny Spinarak in Pokémon GO?
Being a Generation II Pokémon, Spinarak has been in Pokémon GO since 2017, less than a year after the game’s inception. Of course its shiny variant wasn’t available then, though, and was released to the GO dex in 2021, during that year’s spooky Halloween event. So that’s a yes! Shiny Spinarak is available in Pokémon GO, and is an even more adorable pastel blue color, in contrast to the Silk Spit Pokémon’s usual soft green.
Is shiny Ariados in Pokémon GO?
The ability to evolve shiny Spinarak to shiny Ariados was released at the same time, in October 2021. A more subtle color-change, but still instantly recognizable, shiny Ariados has a purple-pink body where it’s usually red, and blue and yellow limbs.
How to evolve shiny Spinarak in Pokémon GO
In order to evolve Spinarak into Ariados in Pokémon GO, all you need is Candies – 50 to be precise, so it’s not cheap, but it’s also not among the most expensive. If you’re short on Spinarak Candies, be sure to use a Pinap berry whenever you encounter one in the wild.
Spinarak Spotlight Hour — June 2022
Spinarak will be the focus of a Pokémon GO Spotlight Hour in June, 2022. During the event, while shiny rates remain the same, the increased number of Spinarak spawning in the wild will give you a higher chance of encountering a shiny spider. What’s more, you’ll be able to Pinap every shiny or non-shiny Spinarak you see to gather those Candies for evolution.
During the Spinarak Spotlight Hour, on June 21, 2022, Trainers will also evolve double XP for evolving Pokémon – even more reason to save up those Candies and evolve your Spinarak. However, this applies to any Pokémon, so be sure to save any evolutions until 6pm – 7pm local time on June 21, 2022.
